Well basically i have my old ATI Radeon 8500 (BBA, not an LE) 128mb layin around so i thought I'd throw it in me old pentium 2 400mhz, 512mb Ram, 2x 20gb hard drives, Intel SE440BX mobo, to replace my ATI Radeon 64mb DDR VIVO in it, an it will load up to the bios screen where it show how much ram an yur drives, but then it doesn't proceed after that it just sits at that screen wen have my Radeon 8500 in it, anyone know how to get it to boot an work? :t

Just thought I'd mention my power supply is brand new enermax 350watt dual fan unit, cuz i've seen alot of forums mention "it could be your power supply" :P

(not like that would be a prob anyway...)

hmmm... maybe the card is hooped.

no other systems to try it in?

Your Intel SE440BX chipset mobo does not support 4X AGP videocards! The Intel BX chipset only supports the 2X AGP videocards and I don't think that it would support a 4X AGP card unless your particular videocard could be set to the 2X AGP mode by moving a jumper.

Then why does my ATI Radeon 64mb DDR (http://www.atitech.com/products/radeon/radeon64ddr/specs.html) work just fine when the ATI Radeon 8500 128mb (http://www.atitech.com/products/radeon8500/radeon8500128/specs.html) won't? as you see their both AGP 2x/4x :t

I pulled a 64 mb ati radeon out of my board to put in a new card the new card was flakey so I pulled it back out and reinstalled the old card. I wouldn't work. I reseated it a couple of more times, still no go. Then I tried it without the bracket screw and it worked. Apparently the screw would pull the card slightly out of the slot just enough to loose contact. I finally loosened the MB screws and shifted the MB a bit and everything was fine after retightening all the screws and installing the bracket screw for the card. Anyway check it out. Anything is possible.

The other thing to consider too is the voltage difference required by the 2X AGP versus the voltage requirement of the 4X/8X AGP. Have you looked at your motherboard's manual? It should give you specifics as to what it will and won't support. All I can tell you is that I have a Gigabyte GA-6BXU (Slot-1) mobo which only supports 2X AGP modes and I can use 4X/8X AGP videocards as long as it can be set to 2X AGP mode by jumper(s) and not at 4X/8X AGP mode! Intel BX chipset AGP slot only provides voltage levels at 2X AGP mode and trying to run it at 4X/8X AGP mode could destroy the videocard since the 4X/8X AGP videocards uses slots with lower voltages supplied to them!

Your BX chipset mobo is one of the most reliable mobos around but unfortunately one of its shortcomings is the 2X AGP slot and that is why Intel had to continually come up with more advanced chipset just to be able to support the newer 4X/8X AGP videocards.

neither of these cards support agp 8x, they both only support 2x/4x, radeon 64mb ddr vivo runs in 2x in this mobo so should the 8500

Please check the manual or the manufacturer's website for the videocard to see if a jumper has to be moved in order to run in 2X AGP mode! I know that on some videocards you would have to check and move the jumper accordingly in order for it to run in either 2X AGP or 4X/8X AGP modes. Reason being is the different voltage levels that drive them.

There is no jumper on the card :t
