I often unconsciously entered some dangerous sites, so how can I block those vicious sites? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Search these forums for a post on Hosts file an try it..

You could also put the address in ur resricted zone.

Tools > Internet Option > Security > select Resricted Site > click buttom "sites" an add the IP address. ie ... www.abc.???
Add only whats between the http:// an the next / > xxx.xxx.xxx

Install Spybot and Spywareblaster. Keep them up to date.

You can enter an entry to your Windows host File every time you encounter a URL that you would like to Block.

Link to: Windows Host File- What is it and How to Mange it? (http://www.ezlan.net/host1.html)

You can also use this: Free Parental Filter. (http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pfilter.html)

Get a firewall software.
http://www.armor2net.com. It has a Banned Sites List and you can add the URLs of those dangerous sites into that List. Those disgusting sites will be blocked. :p

I'm looking for a non-maintenance type solution.
I could redo their host files, but...that's constant maintenance...

I use a program called PeerGuardian.

It has a list of ..well...i guess thousands and thousands and thousands of IP addresses in its database (blocklist)

and it blocksout alot of nasties.

www.methlabs.org

you have to hit 'the forums' and on your left there is Peer Guardian LITE

Lite is much better then the regular one, uses 0% cpu. Download the latest block list, and you can choose what you want to block.

If ya need help, just PM me

I'll have to give 'er a whack. (Not literally...)

I tried that free parental filter...hosed my home PC. Good thing I had a week old Ghost Image.

After uninstalling it...it hosed IE. Yes, I use Firefox 99% of the time, but..I do need IE on occasion.

20 minutes, up and going again...

The Parental control offered via Linksys routers cost money, so...that's a no no. I thought it would be free.

I'll give 'er a whirl...thanks.
