Hi,

I've got a new computer and he does'nt want to install Windows. After I've put my Windows starting disk into my floppy, everything is fine. He ask me to put the CD Rom of Windows into my CD Driver and after a bit, he's telling me: "It is impossible to create a temporary file. If you have HPFS or NTFS installed on your hard drive you must create a starting MS-DOS partition to install Windows". It is not all the correct word but it is very near of.

HELP MEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! (snif, snif)

You've got it all wrong Decklord...When our computers are running great and overclocked to the max they're "he"s. When they're finicky and *****y they're "she"s (no offense meant to anyone out there). Is this a new computer that you built? If it is, remember that you have to "fdisk" and "format" new Harddrives and designate a "primary DOS partition". Also, if this is a new build, make sure that you have turned-off "boot sector virus check" in the cmos setup program before you try to install Win98.
Good Luck,
Paul

Well,

In fact, it is not mine. It is to a friend and I try to help him. This computer have been built in a store but SHE does'nt have windows 95 on it. That's what I'm trying to install but this not working. Is it my Windows boot disk that have a problem? This disk comes from an old Windows 95 version. What should I do?

i think you have to use fdisk to delete your current partition then create a new 32bit one and format/s the hd

It cames with nothing. I had only DOS installed on it. The merchant telled to my friend that he had only to install windows by typping install in dos. But, when he do that, dos is telling him that the CD rom is not installed. So, we use the windows starting disk. All is ok then but after a bit of installation he tell me the message about partition.

I'm loosing fast the will to live.

Will the computer boot without the floppy boot disk? If it will not boot with the boot disk, it was not formated as a bootable hard drive. I agree with the others that it sounds like you need to create a primary DOS partition. To do this boot using your boot disk. At the DOS prompt type fdisk. It will start the process. Tell it to create a Primary DOS Partition. If it says one already exists, you will have to delete that one and create a new one. Then format it by typing format C: /s. That will make it a bootable hard drive.

If it will boot without a disk to the dos prompt, then a primary dos partiton does exist. Do you have the 3.5 floppy cd rom driver disk? The cd driver must be installed on your hard drive so that that you can change to that drive (usually D http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif or you must have a Windows boot disk (3.5 floppy) that has the cd rom driver on it before you can load Windows from the cd. Are you trying to change drives to the cd drive before typing install? If it is telling you that drive you are trying to access does not exist, then you must get the computer to recognize the cd drive before you can install Windows from the cd.
