For a couple weeks now (don't know EXACTLY when it started) whenever I use NS(4.6) it will consistantly pause and thrash my HD. NS will freeze while it's doing this but other programs aren't affected. Each time it will thrash the disk for about 8-10 seconds (which IS a long time). It happens about every 90 seconds or so. As you can imagine, it's very annoying to use NS when it's frozen about 10% of the time.

I've tried using diffent sizes for it's memory & disk cache but that doesn't seem to affect it in any way. Weird thing is, even if I'm not using NS but it's minimized in the background it will still do it with the same frequency. Very irritating!

If anyone has any thought I'd appreciate hearing them. One thing I'd really like to know is WHAT is NS writing to/reading from my HD? Anyone know of some type of program that would allow me to see what is happening in the background?

Netscape 4.6
Win98 (1st edition)

How much RAM do you have?

Netscape is known to use more RAM than IE, so even if you adjust swap file settings, it will still have to transfer data to and from the disk.
