good learning tools for becoming an IT

I'm just looking for some good reading or learning tools from experienced IT's that they would think would be helpful for an IT student working a Bachelors in IT with a focus on network administration. For instance what are the most prominent types of programming languages and any books or cd's that are informative and resourceful. What types of skills are needed and what skills do you think will be needed in the near future? Where is the field of IT headed, "besides India and China"? I just want to be well prepared and well rounded when I graduate this November.

Any information would be helpful and appreciated.
