Okay this will be a long story...... Once upon a time.... I had a good setup with this board, a XP1700+ stock cooling, OC'd to 2.0, R9200, 2x 256 Kingston Value Ram PC3200, Audigy Gamer sound-card, Old case with built in (Foolproof) standoffs, PC Power & Cooling 350W PSU
I was going to give this to my Mom (in her 80's) to replace her P3 1000.... so I bought a new Antec Case with a 380W PSU and new optical drives, floppy and 80 gig IDE Seagate... and a new 2800+ Sempron.... I had the latest 5.8 BIOS and the Latest drivers. The Antec has the screw in Brass standoff's, I put in the required ones, in the right places, no extras. I took the Mobo out of the old case and put it on the Mobo box and carefully changed the CPU to the Sempron using the Stock cooler and contact pad. I put the Mobo and all the components in the new case... no post... the D-Bracket said it was hanging at Video card initialization.... same Vid card as before when working... tried various combos of ram, reseated everything 4 or 5 times. took it all out reinstalled the 1700. The Warden had me put the Sempron in her Abit KV7. Spent more time on the K7N2/1700 combo to no avail, .... went a bought a new (Cheap) DFI board. all worked well. I delivered the comp
On return I had ordered some more RAM, 1gig (2 x 512) Mushkin PC3200, I bought a new MSI RX9550SE-TD128 video Card, I had no sound card now, but I put it all back in the old case.
No Post... I reset CMOS and used the "Sticky" method posted on the MSI site forums where you remove the power cable , hit the power switch a few time to completely discharge the PSU, hook the cable back up and with the 'Insert' key held down power up .... it worked! I am ecstatic! reset the BIOS boot sequence to the regular ..Floppy/CD-ROM/HDD-0, FSB to 133 and booted into Windows, not a fresh install, but the same install I had 5 or 6 weeks previous.... all is swell! No Audio, but I could take care of that little problem right...first update all those Vital security patches from Uncle Bill....Install , restart....nothing! No post!
I have to go thru the whole process again ...still no boot.. Again... still no reboot. Now I'm removing Batteries, clearing CMOS, doing the "Hokey Pokey", going to Church, swearing off drinking doing it all again ...and it reboots! Life is Good!
But no onboard Audio, So.... Device Manager, troubleshooting (Checked BIOS before) maybe I should reload the Driver? I had that Audigy in there before! Reload driver from MSI site... restart.... No Post! Double Dog Dang!
I have had it in Windows 4 or 5 times...Each time taking several hours of try and retry then try again.
Besides calling the Suicide Prevention Hotline ....... Do you have any Ideas?
Maybe I had some sort of static event with the BIOS chip?
Thanks
I posted this earlier today at the factory MSI forum, other than someone who has a low opinion of Semprons I have had no response.
And no response anywhere .... I am impatient and have yet to try a EPOX board. Little use in asking about them as no board has a perfect following.... I really considered getting a second NF7-S as you can get a ton of support for them today... but I am not a Maximum clocker, just a mild clocker. the new EPoX is a 8RDA6+Pro and has a Gigabit Lan which might be useful in the future, It has a great bundle, different (Better?) onboard sound and firewire (I don't use it, but it's there) good bundle I think. Doesn't matter now it is ordered
I just hope to clock my 1700 at 2.0 again.
