I purchased a card "grab bag" from a computer store. I got one 28.8 modem, a 1MB video card, and one.. well, I think it's networking card. It's made by Novell. Here's all the numbers on the board.

Board S/N 058878
BD.# 738-000228-001 Rev. C
ASSY. # 810-000228-001 Rev. D

The chipset on the card reads:

AT/LANTIC DP83905AVQB

The card has a phone line hookup with a yellow and green LED beside it. Also, what looks like a joystick port (it LOOKS like that, i know it isn't) and what appears to be a cable hookup of some sort? Geez, I don't know. Well, anyone know what this thing is or where I could go to find out..

Oh yeah, already tried Novell.Com, no help.
What can I do with this card? I'm not much of a networking know-it-all so..

First off.

That is a network card the phone jack type plug is for cabling called CAT-5 the cable type connector is for cable TV type wire with a BNC conneector on the end.

If you use it try to use only the cat-5 connector since the other ones are out of date.

Good luck.

the other joystick one is made by ibm it was a token ring I think and that is really outta date.. like the other guy said use cat5 (or Rj 45 cable.) RG 55 is the cable that will also be fine.. its not good for big networks though but excellent for home networks becuase no hub is required for more then 2 comptuers.

Hmm, all this new networking terminlogy!

Thanks for all the posts. I guess I'll just sell it on eBAY and hopefully few a few beans. And while we're on the topic of networking, would a direct connect (using Direct Connect cable) be the most efficient, easiest, and fastest wasy to link two computers together. The reason I ask is becauseI've been meaning to bring my computer to a friends house and D.C. them together to play Half-life or Quake 2 against each other. We also want to trade files.

Actually, the joystick port looking connector is an AUI port, made for connecting to Thicknet coax networks, or for use with a transceiver for various other connector types. Someplace I have a card that is similar. It should a be a clone of the Novell NE2000 network card and is made (if I recall correctly) by a company known as "Anthem". It should work, assuming you can set or guess what resources (IRQ, I/O port) it is using with the standard NE2000 driver that comes with win95/98/NT.

If there's an FCC ID on the card (most cards sold in the US have them) you can look up the manufacturer, part number and sometimes a description and stuff like that through the FCC's web site:

for about 60 bucks you can get a starter network kit from tigerdirect. Comes with 5 port hub, two PCI NIC cards and the cables. I bought it and its cool

What you have is a lantastic network card. You can go to windrivers.com or drivershq.com and get all the particulars and probably drivers if there needed. Although if your not planning on connecting to a network anytime soon, your suggestion about Ebay sounds pretty good. Luck to ya.
