I am going to try out this shotgun technology which utilizes both modems but I am having some problems installing the 2nd modem. Diamond is sending me the CD for the shotgun upgrade but I was wondering if anyone has tried this yet. When I install the 2nd modem (ISA bus) I have to manually add a new COM port. When I run the diagnostic, I get couldnt open port. At one point I got both modems on Com 2 which cant be right (I think). I started playing with the jumpers on the 2nd modem last night but figured I would wait for the CD to come and see what it does. Any one do this before?

FishBoy--
I've never heard of someone shotgunning two modems, and I find that interesting. I was curious as to what would you do with it?

shotgun is a new technology put out by diamond (you need one of their modems) where you combine two analog modems to double your speed. If you generally connect at 40bps, you will now connect at 80. It does involve a second phone line installed and an ISP that supports it. They will charge a bit more as well. My problem is (so far) getting the machine to recognize the 2nd modem.

There has been some discussion on this a while back. It might be worth the effort to run a couple of searches. If I recall, Diamond's Shotgun technology is not exactly necessary.

*** I already had a 56k Modem and I won a Diamond Supraexpress modem though a contest, I was all set for SHotguning. I installed the software and everything!! Then it hit me...only a small percentage of ISP's support it and I was plenty happy with my ISP and didnt really wanna go tohrough the trouble. Not just that, it would choke up both of my lines. I think it was worth more trouble than to be able to have a 76k connection

Shotgun sucks. Windows 98 has built in multilinking that will work with ANY two modems.
If you can get the modems installed correctly, just tell multilink which one is the primary, and which is the secondary. Hook up two phone lines and go.
This technology works best with an ISP that supports it, but you can use two dial-ups, or even two different ISPs with varying results.
BTW, I'm connected at 98,666 right now, using a $40 Rockwell and a $20 Lucent.

where is this multilink feature located? I have 98 and looked in the DUN as well as modem properties but cant seem to find it. Even download DUN 1.2 for my win95 set up to see if it was there.

yeah, I just downloaded dun1.3 and found the option for multilink. I am at work so I cant remember if 98 has this feature. Does it? I wont be home for a few more hours.
