The Viper Ultra has a fan on the heatsink.

so the viper ultra has a fan on the heatsink? and the regular 770 does not? is this for all makers of the card?

Diamond is the only maker of the Viper 770.

Nvidia makes the TNT2 "engine", other manufacturers use it on their cards.

It seems the digital whirlwind that swept through SysOpt last night wiped your thread from the Vid section...

Recap:

You got this system that was suppose to have Diamond's v770 TNT2 Ultra card installed. For some reason you suspected it wasn't, so posted here hoping to find out how to identify the board.

You had a thread posting the same question over in the Video section. There, you were able to confirm your board was indeed not the ultra version.

However, the last post on that thread, (before the infamous midnite whirlwind had struck,) you stated you had a STB card and was wondering the clocking abilities of that card....

Okay.

If this is the card Gateway included in your system as an Ultra TNT2, someone there made a mistake. Oddly, this mistake was compounded by the fact that they used the TNT2 drivers. I say this because STB was bought by 3dFX (the Voodoo guys) before the TNT2 chip was released. Consequently, STB (under 3dFX) did NOT produce any TNT2 based cards. Therefore, the clock speed of this card would reflect the original TNT chip’s 90/110 ~ 95/115 speeds, or somewhere there about.

alright, i did end up checking the settings and they were 125/150 so i know that it isn't an ultra. it also didn't have a fan on the heatsink. they're sending a new one and i should have it today or tomorrow. However, i checked gateway's website and they're sure that stb made the card. i know it's not creative labs, but i'm gonna call gateway again and double check. thanks bleeding edge.

This is interesting news Pollux.

If 3dFX is producing TNT2 based cards under the STB logo, this is the first I've heard of it anywhere on the net.

I wonder if they are in financial straits from Voodoo sells. It would be embarrassing for them to be selling boards based on their competitor's chip instead of their own...

But it may be wiser financially.

The TNT2 cards listed here at by Creative Labs...I didn't see STB TNT2 anywhere... I saw a 3dfx Voodoo3 but no STB TNT2s...

thanks whoknowswho... i'm still looking for where i saw that, but i might be mistaken. i'm taking my graphics card out when i get home, and creative labs labels theirs so i'll check it back and get back to both you and bleeding edge.

that's what i was thinking b.e. however, if you go to stb's site, they make no mention of it. but if you go to gateway's site and look up who makes there cards, sure enough it's stb. maybe an e-mail to them is in order?
