Ok heres the problem,
My CD ROM has stopped reading CDs. Its a Mitsumi 24X and I've had it for 2 and a half years. It has never been cleaned. I can make it eject by pressing the button or using commands in windows, it just won't read CDs. What I did was went out and bought one of those canisters of compressed gas, cleaned the CD-ROM (and the rest of the computer while I was at it). Still nothing, its still not working. All cords are attached, the CD ROM works as far as I can tell except that it won't read CDs. Could something have happened to the motor? If it's beyond immediate repair I will just buy a $30 drive over at outpost.com and get it overnighted (free shipping)
Thanks,
Zach

Make sure the ribbon cable is inserted tightly or try another cable before you buy another cd-rom

Another thing you may want to try is a CD player cleaner your laser inside may have dirt buid up that the compressed gas can't remove.

The kit goes for around 10.00 in most areas.

If the cable seems to work with other devices then my idea may work for you.
