I have a LAN with 3 PC's hooked to a Linksys Router, which connects to my DSL modem. Windows XP on all.

2 of the PC's are fine, but the 3rd one continues to lose the connection to the router. Sometimes it will say "The network cable is unplugged" at the bottom right corner of the screen. After rebooting, I can't connect to the router at all and can't get an IP address assigned. When I ping the router address at 192.168.1.1 it shows no response. I tried switching the cable to a different port on the back on the router, but no luck.

I'm close to trying to reinstall the operating system and drivers on the machine, but I wanted to see if anybody could give me some troubleshooting tips before I did.

thanks.

Did you try using a different cable?

Look in Device manager for the network card and see if the power save is turned on...

And or, go to a command prompt and type:

ipconfig /release all
ipconfig/ renew
