Well setting up DSL at work here and ran into 2 problems. 1, is there a difference from a regular phone line and a "Data Cable" and its not refering to a patch cable. and 2, I got a bunch of these filter things, but none of them seem to work. I plug them in series, with the wall and phone itself and still get the high pitched squelling. Now that i think of it, make that 3 problem's. This 1 is with the router we have here, there is no WAN port to plug into, so as of right now i just have it running into 1 of the regular ports. Is this accetable? Thats pritty much it, if you need any more info, just ask. Thanks a ton Bryan

There is nothing special about a phone cable except that the wires on each end should not match like a data cable. For example the two ends should have this color pattern:
BRGY or YRGB and the other plug
YGRB or BGRY

If the ends are not swapped in our phone network our phones will not work. It is simply a send and receive connection for digital transmisson. Sort of like a cross over cable. The filters only work for analog phone lines if I remember correctly.

If you system works you need to determine why the other three systems fail.

I would check wiring first. Do you get a link from each PC to the router? If not make sure the cables are made properly.

Next check to see if you get an IP address from your router. Look at your systems IP setup and compare it to the others.

I have this type of connection at my office:
DSL Modem -> Router -> Switch -> computers

Our DSL modem does not provide DHCP address. That is handled by our server. Make sure you do not have 2 DHCP servers or you will have problems.

it's a standard RJ-11 cable.

what is the make and model of your "router"? It sounds like you have a regular switch, not a router.

since you probably have only 1 IP from your ISP, only one computer can connect. like I said, it doesn't sound like you have a router at all.

Did you install the DSL software on all the PC's you want to connect?
