loss of connection every few seconds

Hi using AOL I get disconnected after a few seconds I had to log on six times to get to this page. is there any settings i can check using win xp, dialup connection
Used another pc on the same line no problems

I would check to make sure the proper modem drivers are being used.

Second I would make sure the number is being dialed correctly. For example if you have call waiting it should be disabled when you dial the internet. In my area I simply add "*70," before the phone number. You need to use AOL's setup utility to do this. You phone book should tell you what to dial.

If those two things are correct, I would make sure you are usign a good phone line. You said another PC worked okay, but maybe the lines plug got damaged or a cable got crimped or cut.

If this fails, AOL should be able to help you.

Thanks, I have looked at everything you said, and they look ok.
Its strange, that when I boot up first thing, it disconnects about five times every few seconds, and it reconnects its self automatically. Now I am on the pc for half an hour it has not disconnected its self??
