I just got a Samsung 21 inch LCD and i love the thing,
I bought it used from someone that has more money than he knows what to do with, and he got something yet bigger and better.
but that means that my screen came without packaging or worranties and such.

during transport it must have made contact with some metal though, cause 3/2 of the way up and about 1.5' from the left side there is an inch long scratch. and it looks pretty deep.
during gaming you can't notice it, and during normal desktop operation it looks like a hair, but when the whole screen goes black it looks like an eclipse of the sun!!

I was wondering if there is a good 'do it yourself' way to fix something like this?
ive looked around the internet and some ppl suggest using a scratch remover for cds to repair the screen.

did anyone try this, and if so what were the results.
i can live with the scratch for a bit, but it will get annoying over time.

i just don't want to do anything that will prevent me from applying a better fix later on.

Thanks for any suggestions i get.

I wouldn't try to repair it that way. There are all sorts of things tha can go wrong. If it has an anti-glare coating, you'll lose it in that area. You also need to be careful with how fast you do it and how hard. Two things LCD's tend not to like very much are heat and pressure (though most now can take a good bit of pressure - still not something I'd want to do). Still, the results will be as good as a CD, and that generally will mean the results are nothing as I've yet to find a cleaner that works notably better than plain old water - and if you have a visible gouge, you'll need something more than what most CD cleaners use (alcohol or a liquid polymer).

You could try tilting it slightly depending on the direction and angle of the gouge to minimize the effects. If monitors could be touched up, they wouldn't pull the screens on refurbs.

Not saying it can't be done as I've heard of professional glass or jeweler's paste working. Though I've never seen posted results showing a before and after shot - and even then, you will still most likely buff off the anti-glare coating in the area you are working on.

You may want to try google to find some more information.

Heck...
I'd write or call Samsung, tell them you are the original owner, see what they can do for you.

A 21 LCD new is still 700 to 900 bucks plus.
If you can get that one refurbed or fixed for like a 100 or so, well worth it in my book....

It's worth 15 minutes of your time to find out, at least.

I've had good experience having Samsung warranty some hard drives in the past, they were very professional....
