I am getting this error on an old PC i have laying around. The PCs spec are:
AMD 2500
SOYO dragon KT333 (Dont know the exact name)
Hard Drive, CDrom? yes
512M DDR400 Samsung
ATI 9600 SE
I use this PC as a interent surfer its connected to my TV that way I dont have to get my fat *** up to go the other side of the house to look something up on the internet.
Any way it will not boot getting "bios rom checksum error". I am guessing its a bad component on the Motherboard. Thats the reason I placed it here. I cant get it to boot to floppy, CDrom or get in the bios. AHAAAA bad bios chip! What do you think??

BIOS ROM checksum errors can also come from bad RAM (because the checksumming happens when the main POST program is unpacked from ROM to RAM). Change that first. Trying to reflash the BIOS ROM on a machine that has bad RAM will kill it even more dead.

I think thats a good price for a Gig of PC3200. Mushkin too!!
Sounds like a dead battery and so the BIOS settings were not set.
Yeah, I think G is right! Get a $1 battery and a case and you may have a second PC. Oh, well, you really wanted to upgrade didn't you!

No it doesn't.
BIOS ROM checksum error
does not equal
CMOS RAM checksum error
Big difference.
Explanation:
The read-only memory (ROM) containing the BIOS program is protected by a checksum value as a double-check that the ROM code is correct. This checksum is compared against the values in the ROM each time the PC is booted and if there is a mismatch, this code is generated.
Note:
This error is not the same as a CMOS Checksum Error, which refers to corrupted values of the CMOS settings, the ones you set through the BIOS setup program. This error means the contents of the BIOS code itself are damaged.
Diagnosis:
The BIOS ROM chip on the motherboard is probably faulty. It could also be another component on the motherboard.
Recommendation: Troubleshoot the motherboard.

... as I already elaborated in my first post to this thread. Either the ROM contents are actually bad (which might happen right after a failed BIOS flash), or the RAM is. The checksumming happens as the main POST program is being unpacked from ROM to RAM, so you'll get the checksum error when either ROM or RAM are bad.
"Recommended Action: Troubleshoot the Mainboard"??? Gee, that's helpful.
So, did you just flash the ROM? No? Then try known good RAM.
Anyway, I hope you're enjoying your new PC, Recordlord!

Peter's right, i had a BIOS ROM Checksum error a few years back and it basically left me with a board i couldnt do anything with, the solution was to write off to the board manufacturer and have them send me a replacment BIOS EPROM chip, i fitted that and voila

Well who wants to know what I did to fix it?? The AGP port went out on the board. I was running an AIW ATI 9800PRO it was being used as a Home THeatre unit. That card was way too much for that setup!! I put in a PCI card and all is well with the board. I aint using it though!
