Hi

My problem is with file sharing. I can see the computers on the network but I canīt browse the files.

I get an error message something like:

\\******\*** is not accesible. You may not have permission to use this network resource. contact administrator - and depending on the system Iīm on I get - "acess denied" or "insufficient memory on the server"

Itīs a simple XP network with a crossover cable, setup using the "home network wizard", File Sharing, TCP/IP and MS client are all enabled and itīs possible for a pc to ping the other.

What can be wrong?

i would consider creating user accounts. u have to create users that have access to read or see files in other computers.

try http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/itpro/managing/filesharing.asp

You need the same user name and password for both machines.

For example: PC1
Administrator
User1
User2

PC 2 has only Administrator

If you do not have the same password for the administrators the systems can not vconnect to each other. Also the system will pass credentials of the logged in user first. Since PC2 does not have User1 and User2 access will be denied.

One Usernames and passwords are set up try to access the systems again.

If it still does not work, make sure everyone has full access to the file in the security settings.

If you enable guest and place guest in the administrators group, you should be able to access both PC's without issues. If this is the case, you simply need to figure out your security settings. Do not leave Guest enabled or you will have a security problem.
