Is recording a cd track as a realaudio file legal or illegal?
I've had some people say its completely legal, as long as its quality is under 128bits.

Then I've had others say its completely ILLEGAL to do it, period.

Im just wondering if anyone here knows the for sure, real answer!!!

NO.......It is not legal, not even if it is your own.

The only thing that is legal is "Analog" recordings.........nothing "Digital".

(note: digital "Mini-Disks", and "DAT" are ok....go figure)

Check it out here.... www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/17/ch10.text.html (http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/17/ch10.text.html)

And here...... www.minidisc.org/ahra.html (http://www.minidisc.org/ahra.html)

However......there is also this piece of information, which I read as it's legal for "Non-Commercial use"............ www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/17/1008.html (http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/17/1008.html)

Any body that has read these things, and has a comment?
I would love to hear them....... /forum/smile.gif

This is a non-profit organization it would be for.

Does anyone actually have an answer that they truly know is true, and not just guessing what they "think" the answer would be, I would really appreciate it.
