Could anyone please help me figure out how to back up my registry. I'm gonna try and tweak some DUN stuff myself, but I dont' want to do it until I'm sure that I've got the old registry backed up. I don't even know where the registry is stored or what it is stored as? Anyway, thanks for the help ahead of time.

Backing up your registry is simple--not to mention recommended when making changes to it. Using Windows 95/98 start up your Registry Editor by clicking on Start, Run, type in regedit and hit OK.

Once the editor starts up, click on the 'Registry' menu. Select 'Export Registry File.' Select a directory to place the backup file in (eg. c:\mybackup) and type in a name for your registry backup file. Do not add an extention to the file name. The default will be .reg. Make sure that 'All' is selected in the Export dialog box and then select 'Save' to create the backup. Give Regedit a few seconds to finish. Once you have control of the editor again you can make whatever changes you need. You can revert back to the previous version you had by simply double-clicking on the file.

BE CAREFUL WHEN EDITING THE REGISTRY http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
