I just bought two 8 MB EDO SIMMs to install in my home computer. This is the first time that I have ever tried to install memory. Well I had no problems physically installing the memory onto my motherboard. Once I start up my computer it just refused to boot to Windows 95. I always get the following error "While initialising device VXDLDR windows protection error". Ok I pulled out the manual that comes with my system figuring I had to set something in the BIOS or change a jumper on the Motherboard. Well the manual might as well be a cookbook because it is totally useless. What do I need to do?

Specs
Pentium 166
A Open AP53 Motherboard with Intel 430HX chip set
AMI BIOS
4 SIMM slots (2 full 8 MB, 2 trying to fill 8 MB).

Any help would be appreciated

Try installing your new simms where the old ones are by themselves. If you still get an error, you'll know it's that RAM. If it works plug your old RAM in to the other sockets. If that works, great, if not try changing your memory timings in your bios. If you see something that says turbo or fast, set it to normal, etc. If you see something that says 2-1-1-1 or something similar, try setting it lower to like 3-1-1-1 or 4-2-2-2, etc. There's no reason why that RAM shouldn't work. When working with your BIOS be methodical. Only change one thing at a time and try it.
