I am fairly new to Linux and Suse 9.1 Pro. I recently installed it and have been using it for about a month now. Anyway, I have run into a problem. You see, I have Windows XP on one hard drive, and Suse 9.1 on another, so I get a dual boot selection screen everytime I start the computer. The menu displays "Windows", "Linux", and "Failsafe." I was curious as to what the "Failsafe" selection might do, so I selected it one time and it led me to a CUI environment like DOS and prompted me to enter my username and password. I did this and I thus entered the CUI operating system. At this point I had no idea what to do so I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del and I reboot the computer.
Now when I enter the normal "Linux" selection, it takes me to the CUI environment again like what you see at the start of Linux when it first boots from your hard drive, and it prompts me for my username and password. After entering the information, it still never takes me back to the GUI desktop environment of SuSE 9.1 Pro.
What command must I enter in order to go to the desktop environment?

Have you tried "startx"?
