It should be in Windows' system directory. Do a find for it again. You may have accidently performed a find file on a drive other than C.
It wouldn't come up as a device in DManager.
On the windows CD, go into the \tools\reskit folder and double click on the setup icon there. This will install the Resouce kit. Chalk full of technical info. Some of it helpful. a snip from it on Vmm32 is as follows:
"Vmm32.vxd includes the real-mode loader, the executable Virtual Machine Manager, and common static VxDs. Notice, however, that if a VxD file is in the \Windows\System\Vmm32 directory, Windows 98 loads it in addition to the combined VxDs in Vmm32.vxd."
Note
"If you want to update a VxD that has been bound into the monolithic Vmm32.vxd, place the VxD file in the System\Vmm32 directory. Windows 98 always checks that directory and uses any individual VxDs it finds instead of loading those bound in Vmm32.vxd."

vmm32 is a video device look in control panel - system - device manager- display adapter-driver-driver file details-poof c:\windows\system\vmm32.vxd ... by the way ...if you see vdd.vxd in bracket that means its the driver your supposed to use insted of vmm32.vxd you can get the driver off win98 cd under win 98 directory win98_48.cab same with all other braketed device drivers
Let me see here!
I'll try to get the meaning right this time!
VMM32.VXD is a 32 bit virtual machine manager device driver. It is what gives memory allocation to other drivers/executibles. It is absolutely needed for Win to operate. You do have it, and if Win tells you you don't, you have something else corrupt.
You can use sys file checker to determine which files are corrupt and to repair/replace them.
VMM32.VXD is not a video driver.

Petec, fyi.. the filename in brackets means its combined into the file outside the brackets.. ie vdd.vxd is combined into vmm32.vxd.
