I have done some searching and have read the thread about the guy wanting to go 5 miles with an omnidirictional, but haven't found excactly what I want.
I need to try and share a DSL connection with our farm office and our home. Our house is approx. 1/2 - 3/4 mile away from the office, between the 2 buildings is a flat field, no trees ect. I would also like to have signal say, 500-600 feet all the way around the barn, where the DSL connection would originate from. Please tell me if this is possible and what equipment I need to achieve this; Antenna, AP, repeaters, etc.
I have had some experiance with simple wi-fi setups but nothing like this, i used linksys last time and had nothing but trouble with it so would want to stay away from them this time. If I needed antennas at both locations that would be okay.
Thanks a lot in advance.

none of the SOHO routers will have antennae powerful enough to go that far. You would definitely have to get high-gain directional antennae to get that type of range.

Haven't had cause to go looking for this sort of thing... but there just happens to be a local company that makes a directional switch with a range of 4 miles, which sounds like it would be more than enough for you.

If there is clear line of site, by using Entry Level Access Points with External Directional Antennae you might be able to Bridge the Wireless.
Log to this page it describes few scenarios, the last paragraph has a link to a popular inexpensive Directional Antenna.

High power wi-fi (http://www.convergedigest.com/WiFi/wlanarticle.asp?ID=6910) might make it with a good enough antenna link (http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?event=viewProduct&localeCode=EN_USA&cid=94&scid=&pid=1263)

4 Figures for the AP. Switch is a big advertising gimmick for the vivato hardware. Frankly I am amazed vivato is still in business. Interesting technology in principle. Not very effective at all in practice and the OP wants to share an internet connection using a Point 2 Point wireless connection. Vivato is enterprise gear and priced accordingly.
