Just put together a PC with a K6-20 400 CPU on a Diamond C200 motherboard. When I try to boot up using my floppy drive (A:\) it by passes it and goes to my C:\ drive where there is nothing but the Command.sys file. When I try to access the A:\ drive from the C:\ I get the ABORT, RETRY, FAIL message all the time. I have tried using another floppy drive and floppy ribbon cable to no avail. BIOS settings are setup accordingly (A: then C: drive to read first). My friend says that i must type A:\ $&*#@! to make it work since the motherboard is a 100 mhz channel bus. Any truth to this? Thanks for any input.

No, you don't have to type that! Your floppy is not hooked up correctly, or is bad. Make sure the ribbon cable is not backwards....red tracer goes to pin #1 on the board and floppy....and also check that the onboard floppy controller is enabled and that there IS power at the power connector. If you can't go from C: to A:, recheck everything...if the light stays on for the floppy, the ribbon is definitely backwards. goodluck!
