Try to use TweakUI utilites for showing desired device (such as discA, C, D etc.) in MyComputer folder. Also you may connect hard disk as master device (on IDE2 port) - as experience...
P.S. Sorry, my English not quite well yet...

If it's a new drive you need to fdisk the drive. Then you can format.

You can do both thru windows. Just type "command" from the run line and hit enter. This will bring up a DOS box/window with a c:\windows prompt. From here type "fdisk", select option 5 to view another drive, select the drive and set a partition.

Then a drive letter will show up after you reboot. Then you can format it.

i recently added a secondary hard drive to my system. the system cmos recognizes the presence of the secondary drive. also windows 98 recognizes it's presence through the control panel; however, there is no drive letter assigned to it and i can't read it. what can i do to assign a letter to it? the new drive is a WD drive that was installed on my previous machine.

your input and advice will be greatly appreciated.

thanx

If its a WD then you may have EZ-Bios installed, which you will have to remove or format the drive with it in order to use the drive.
