Dead on Standby

Can someone please suggest why my computer will not go on to standby mode but instead just stop responding completely. It never worked when I first installed but then have reinstalled windows, updated bios and mobo drivers in combinations I can't remember. Then it worked for a while but then I must have done something for it not to do. It just hangs. I am using SOYO 5EMA but I don't see how this would make a difference as I know it has the capability to do it.
What am I doing wrong.
Any advice kindly appreciated.

If you disable all APM from bios, the OS should work fine in and out of suspend. It's usually MB bios that causes these probs.
