I have windows me with cd-rw. All of a sudden when I boot up my system the cd tray opens and close`s one then reopens and stays open until I physically close it and keep my finger on the door for a second. I put a cd in it and it does nothing. Looked in my computer directory and there is no cd icon displayed. Have no idea where to begin to start looking. Also in device manager there is no entry to my cd.

Oh, its a hp model xt934 about 3 years old.

I would assume spyware/adware/virus. My fav tools are

Adaware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/)

Spybot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html)

Hijack this! (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html)

Get to it man! Also check to see what progs you last installed that may be trying to access data from those drives. Sometimes programs look for the cd that they were last installed from.
