Yesterday, with the help of a Dell Tech Rep, I downloaded and installed an upgraded version of my BIOS (from A09 to A12). Everything went smoothly.

However, every time I boot-up or re-boot, I receive this annoying "clicking" sound from the 3.5 floppy drive. It will click four to five times then stop (this did not happen before the upgrade). No other problems are present with the floppy.

I do not have a shortcut on my desktop for the floppy drive.

Any offers of help would be most appreciated to remove this annoying clicking sound. However, I'm new to computing so step-by-step instructions would be most appreciated.

My system is a follows:

Dell PII 400 MHZ Intel
96 MB Ram
7.85 GB Hard Drive
7.00 GB Free
Windows 98
Microsoft Works Suite 99
Microsoft Home Publishing 99
Iomega 100 MB Zip Drive
40X CD-ROM Drive
3.5 Floppy Drive
McAfee Virus Scan 4.02 (latest updates)

Again, any help would be most appreciated.

Respectfully,

Creekman

Sounds like your BIOS has the "Floppy disk seek" enabled. You might try going into the bios and looking for something similar to that and turning it off. Anything that might say: floppy drive seek, search for new floppy disk, etc.
good luck

There is a function in Mc Afee Virus scan that checks your floppy for a disc. If there is one in there it will notify you or scan it. So at boot up and shut-off it "seeks".
