Built a new system with FIC PA-2012 mobo. It won't find Quantum HDD that was working in my other system, but it'll find a Western Digital HDD, with same cables and correct jumper settings. Doesn't matter if I set it up as a master or slave ... all by itself or teamed with the WD, it finds the WD but not the Quantum.
I've had nothing but trouble building this board, but I'm hoping this is the last problem. Help me one more time guys.

Remove the jumper from the Quantum.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Okay, I took out the jumper. Still nothing. It doesn't matter how I set the jumpers on the Quantum... no find. I tried another HDD, and it worked fine. The 2 HD that work are both small. The Quantum is a 6.4gb. Could it be that this mobo won't recognize a large HDD?
...I think FIC really messed up when they came up with this baby, and yet, Anandtech says it's a great board. I guess the design is just too old and so is Anandtech's review.

You've gotten a BIOS update?

That's another sore point. I tried upgrade with the latest BIOS and it said my system wasn't compatible. I had to back up one version, but that worked fine. The version I installed is 3 above the original. No cigar.

Callas,

I don't know if this will help but here goes. Are both these drives on the same IDE channel? I tried to put a new Maxtor 8.4 GB drive and an old Maxtor 2.5 GB drive on the same channel with the new GB as the Master. Couldn't do it. The old drive refused to be the slave and it would hide the new drive. I just couldn't see it just like your situation. Reversed, with the 2.5 as the master everything worked fine. The new was a ultra DMA and the old a PIO 3. This might be the reason??? So try different IDE channels, if possible.

To Mudman... I'm not trying to run 2 HDD at same time. I want to run the 6.4 Quantum all by itself. The BIOS won't recognize it. Doesn't matter how I set the jumpers. I have the original manual which contains the jumper settings. This drive operates fine in my other setup. I've upgraded the BIOS, but no help there.

UPDATE... first let me thank everybody for their help and advise. I'm learning so much with your help, I may be becoming dangerous. No telling how much trouble I could have gotten into if I didn't get your advise before trying things on my own.
As for working through the problems of 2 FIC motherboards, I've come to the conclusion that neither will support any CPU over 233mhz, so that's that. The only problem left with the PA-2012, is that it refuses to recognize my Quantum HD. Apparently it's not a size problem... I put in a Fujitsu 4.3 and it found it pronto.
I guess I'll build these 2 MoBo's into barbones and sell them. It's been a journey, but worth it. I even made some friends along the way.

Until next time... adios, amigos.

Hello Callas....If you want anyone to find your free page, you better give it the right address....try adding an "L" on the end of it to say...http://nexad.com/freestuff.html

...the "L" you say... sorry about that. Hope you found it worthwhile. I couldn't get my work done without most of those programs.
