I installed the card and accessed the internet. Two to three pages would load then they wouldn't load anymore. I reinstalled windows98 and called my isp's tech support line and they couldn't fix it. So finally I formatted my drive and installed everything again. Still couldn't view webpages. So I called tech support again and happened to ask if he knew why my mouse froze everytime I double clicked anything. I told him I didn't notice it till after I installed the sound card. He said that could be the reason I couldn't view webpages. I thought he was crazy at first but I uninstalled the card and sure enough I can view webpages again. Installed the card again and it wouldn't view webpages, so I installed my other card and everything works fine. I checked for conflicts when I installed but didn't find any. What could cause this to happen? The sound is set on irq11 and also uses irq5. I moved it to another pci slot and it used irq 9 and irq5 but still freezes the mouse and conflicts with the modem. I just uninstalled it so I could post this. The modem is on com4 and the mouse is on com3. Even installed liveware 2.0 and 2.1 and it still does it.

Why are your mouse and modem on com 3 and 4?
What is your system specs?
What is your modem & mouse?
Do you use special software for the mouse?
I believe that Logimouse Ver 6 had problems with Win95/98, that was fixed in Ver 7.

I meant irq 3 and 4. I have a k6-233 64mb ram windows98. The modem is a modem blaster external modem and the mouse is just a normal serial mouse. No special software for the mouse either. The mobo is a shuttle i430tx 569.

What video card are you using?
Try decreasing the hardware acceleration by clicking the 'graphics' button in the 'performance' tab of 'systems properties' in the control panel.

It's S3Virge 4mb. I did what you said and it still conflicts. I even moved the mouse to com2 and the modem to com1 and it's still doing it. I have the latest drivers for the video so I know that's not it. Don't know what it could be.
You have a resource conflict. The solution may be to set the SB-Live to manual configuration and select other than the normal input/output ranges, or try the card in a different slot.
I have a Hot-569 also, but I don't have my SB-Live in it so I can't really help anymore than that.

Wouldn't it figure. Everything went fine so I put my post up and right as I went to click submit the **** mouse hung up again. Rebooted and it hung up again. That had to been part of the problem, the i/o thing. It said there wasn't a conflict but obviously there was because my modem works fine, it's just the mouse now. I went ahead and moved the i/o to a different spot and it obviously solved the modem problem, it works fine now. Anyways I went back to the driver that came with the mouse in hopes of that solving the problem so hopefully it will. I was using microsofts driver because it was more recent. Anyways if it freezes up again oh well, will do some heavy complaining to sb and microsoft. I'm getting another computer soon anyway and already have another mouse, except this one is a ps/2 mouse so should have better luck with it. Thanks for the help, cause it did help with the modem. Guess I need to learn the keys from my keyboard to control everything cause I know this mouse will screw up again.

Well the ps/2 mouse I have is still sitting in the box waiting for when I get my new system. I started to buy the adapter to hook it up to the serial port but the guy at the hardware store said not to. I did find out what my problem is though and it's not a conflict of such. Creative Labs said my pci needs to be 2.1 compliant or something like that. Will have to check it. About 30 seconds after I posted my last response the **** thing hung up again. I'm fixing to throw it out the window. Funny thing is I checked for a bios update from award. For some reason they have an update for my mobo but will only "SELL" it to me. They won't give it to me free of charge. They can kiss my ****! Will just go without sound till I can get my new system, but I'm sure it'll do the same thing on my new one. Nothing ever goes right when I buy something, reguardless what it is. Creative told me to check some stuff in my bios so I need to do that and see what's going on there. I can say your right about having the mouse on com1 though. i have it set to com2 now and it's all screwed up. Disappears and stuff like that. Will move it back to com1 after I check the bios. I only moved it to com2 to see if that could be the problem why it was conflicting but obviously not. Microsoft was no help either. All they did was give me a webpage with a solution to an error message you can get when installing the card if you don't have emm386.exe file installed. I specifically told them my problem. Didn't say anything about an error message. People at Microsoft are complete morons as far as I'm concerned! Will figure it out on my own.

My older 486 dedicated the mouse to com 1. The modem would install on com 2 or 4. The serial mouse is a bit tricky to install. If you put it on anything but com 1 it screws up. I went through this with all kinds of different configurations before I got it right. If you have ps/2 mouse in your bios enabled, you will have problems with windows keeping the mouse connected to a serial port.
Also some of the cheeper mice die after a month or so. I got sick of this and now I buy only Logitech mice, they last longer without any install problems. Get the 3 button unversal connector one at around $20+ they work great and can be used on both ports successfully.
Sorry about the speech. Hope this helps.

Creative is probably correct about your problem. The SB Live might not be able to fall back to the old pci spec. The new PCI 2.1 spec. was for IRQ sharing & Busmastering, probably more, I don't know.
Bottom Line, get a new motherboard. I suggest the latest from Epox. If you have 72 pin Simms FIC. for $70-$85 You could run your CPU @ 250 mhz (100*2.5) even with 66 mhz ram. The most bang for your buck that you will get, second being 100mhz SDRAM.
Plus they come with a ps\2 connection for that new mouse of yours.
Good luck

I've already decided on a new motherboard. The Epox MVP3G-M with a K6-3 450. Should get it next week hopefully. It comes with a ps/2 plug unlike the motherboard I have now. I hope this solves my problem. Still going to have to see if it solves the modem not responding though. I did find another guy that has the same exact problem though, except with those diamond monster sound cards. He's stuck as well.
