considering the events in Taiwan & Malaysia are pc parts gonna be far more expensive

just wondering if events in these countries; which make a large percentage of components will drive the prices sky high. And our prayers go out to those in Taiwan and the unrest in Malaysia.

Hi already been thinking along those lines so I phone my wholesaler, bad news he's extecting a 100% increase in prices on Ram alone, ( I wonder if those suites had been consulting the Tarot Cards when they were trying to buy up all the Ram last week) he also made the comment that if mainland China decides now is the time to take control of Taiwan as per their claim results could lead to even bigger price rises, and end up with us going back to the bad old days when it ws cheaper to buy a house than a computer!

Well,as one that's been around for awhile,this is how it goes.If the manufacturer has a product that is semi- exclusive,he can raise his price(due to whatever reasons).The wholesaler can raise his price depending on the demand of the product.If the demand is high enough,he can offer the manufacturer a good price on a large order of product.However,the wholesaler can ask a premium price for the product he has.Who's making the money?... The wholesaler!....Money talks,BS walks...that's Capitalism!

That sucks! If China takes back Tiawan, then there may be more to fear than higher prices, remember now, the Chinesee have Nukes now, if they invade Taiwan, then the US will step in, **** them off, and in a worse case scenario, Alass Babalon!

nobody bothered over Tibet and China didn't have Nukes then, and its not always wholesalers who profiteer, manufacturers will if they think they can get away with it!.. any one remember That French guys predictions about 2000, Nostradamus! makes interesting reading.

we don't get the sci-fi channel,Not yet at least, we just live in a back water of the Asia Pacific Rim.......By the way any one heard more about Daawoo Corp and their possible break up due to money troubles, not been able to get much info from Daawoo!

Prices for RAMs are going up and up. 128MB of PC-100 SDRAM already costs over S$500 (Singapore Dollars)! It was only 3x less just four months ago. (BTW 1S$ = US$ 1.6 approx.). Heard cache RAM and mainboard prices on the increase soon. I doubt US will do anything if PRC invades Taiwan--too many business ties with the Communists goverment there and Clinton kow-tows (whimps-out) to them. Lets see what happens about the alleged spying scandle!

just back from wholesalers, price now at $289NZD and wholesaler can only hold this price till next order in. after seeing Lastus on user touser, biz to biz Ram in States at $289 I think my wholesaler is doing his best to keep his prices down, so Dawgtuff not all wholesalers are profiteers, but manufactureers are definatly cashing in on price hykes. ($1.00NZD=$0.52USD)

I am already going to auctions over here and buying up new system's last time I was paying $900 NZD for P11 350 with 64meg ram V90 modem, video card normally 4meg, and sound cards, Mostly ATX cases, with Key boards mice and monitors, scraped the monitor fetch $200nzd,ATX case $100nzd,MB's $100nzd, HD's $170nzd,CPU $350NZD, by the time everything is sold off I make more brakeing up the computers than biulding at the moment, so only biuld to order no spec biulding at this time.,
