Ok this maybe more of a Half life 2 game problem but its a real pain, i and a few of my mates trying to get online to get Half Life 2 working just cannot do it.
And weve done the works, from turning of firewalls etc, we've recently all installed XP freshly for this moment but cant locate the problem
Basically we get this message when trying to register with Steam:
"steamprocesscall(createaccount)0xab0005,0x17dfc04, 0x17dfd0c) failed with error 200: Failed to find master Authenticationserver"
Theres absolutly no support whatever on the steam site
I mean how bad is that, to actually sell a game that you buy, only to make it impossible to run????
I recently decided about 6 months ago not to use cracked copies of games anymore...
is this my reward?

My God
it took me 4 hours to set up with steam
and im still at it
this is how hard it has become to play HL2
Is this the future of PC gaming
If it is, i will not be a customer for any longer
I am a victim if i stay faithful
I feel sad right now for the PC gaming industry... long remebered..
( my first fav PC game, Monkey Island :( )

I read somewhere there was a new steam update protocol out to interrupt piracy. Perhaps things are just clogged up with everyone trying to get thru the same closet door. Try the earlybird hours...

Rocketmech's got it right, the problem is because everybody in the world is trying to do what you all are trying to do.
http://www.steampowered.com/status/status.html
If you check there, you will see that steam is currently operating at about 80-90 percent max, they are currently running 11,000 Mbps. If you did not preload HL2 before yesterday, then you only have yourself to blame. The preload feature was free to all and its sole purpose was to prevent people from having to download 4 gigs of data at a time when everyone in the world would be trying to authenticate the game.
Over the next few days, the load on the steam servers will subside, and the game will run just fine. As for now, when you finally do get connected to steam, stay connected, and you'll be able to play HL2 till your heart's content.

One time and one time only, after that, you can save your steam login information on the computer, and select "offline mode"

Now it appears that ValvE has resolved the problem:
