I am out of ideas. New PC that I'm setting up for a friend with an ABIT BM6 mainboard, Celeron 366 and Win '98 OS does not want to "fully" boot back up after Windows 98 is shut down. The do not turn off screen pops up for a few seconds then the entire computer shuts off but when you push the power button on the case (either immediately or a day later) the fans come on and the hard drive lights flash but no video. I think I have fully disabled the AP functionality of the mainboard but that hasn't helped either. If I unplug and plug the power cord it boots up just fine. HELP @#)!

Have you tried another cord? Sounds like a bad Powersupply. What case are you using?

Had a similar blackout after Win 98 desktop started. AMD K6 2/333 chip was too fast for the motherboard. Installed a slower [266mhz]AMD chip. Computer now very stable and runs cooler, faster. Use as large a chip cooler fan as the space and law allows. Was told to try setting up the 333 as an even number:350 or 300. Didn't work. Board mfr. listed speeds to 400mhz. Apparently,Intel can, AMD possibly can't run the faster speeds. Yours is a strange fluke, possibly a switchover to a new power supply may help. Also, wild as it seems, pull out you ram, swap or replace.Ram defects/speed differences cause things to operate abnormally or not at all, even though boot check says ram is okay. It tells you what, but not how it looks to the computer. Good luck. The Harmonicat

To Keyc95;
Case was purchased new as part of a "barebone system" off of Multiwave's site. I believe it is a Spower KS 398xp mini-mid tower with 250W power supply. I've also rechecked all of the power leds plugging into the mainboard (these were originally installed by mwave) which seem to be correct when compared to the ABIT manual. Any other thoughts?

Here's one for you. I just tried something and it seemed to work. I went into the System section of Contol Panel, and under the Device Manager tab and System Devices item disabled the Advanced Power Management Support item. The computer now shuts down completely on its own and I am able to simply press the power button to obtain a full reboot and start up. I guess the question now is have I done anything that is problematic or is there a smarter way to fix this issue?

Have you found any fixes for your problem. I seem to be having the same problem? See my post "Computer will not boot-up or shut down". Let me know If you have any idea's

Thanks,
