Just built a new, (high end), system recently.

I replaced my Plextor 8/4/32 drive with a Plextor PX-712A DVD+R/RW + CD-R/RW drive. I wanted to backup/copy my WinXP CD files to the HDD for recording & creating a new bootable CD later, (my own personal protected backup copy!), but, my CDRWin 3.8c won't recognize my drive as a recorder. I get the error message of..."No CDRom recording device was found on the SCSI or IDE bus!"

In the CDRWin "Devices & Settings" It does recognize the drive as a reader only.

I have the newest Plextor firmware installed as well as the ASPI drivers which came with CDRWin.

I've used CDRWin for years on my CDRom...Does it not work on DVD recorders??

Thank's

AFAIK , CDRWin will supports CD burning only for DVD writers, not DVD burning.
Your Plextor is listed in their supported drives. So, you might try upgrading to the new ver 3.9H . http://www.goldenhawk.com/cdrwin.htm

I should have mentioned that CDRWin won't recognize my Plextor as a CD-Recorder, (even though it is). I do realize that CDRWin doesn't burn DVD's

Do you really think a CDRWin upgrade will change anything?...I mean, I guess it might be worth a try?

Thank's

Well...I downloaded & Installed CDRWin 3.9h (demo), as Rocketmech requested, and it now recognizes my Plextor drive as a CD-recorder.

So this means I have to shell out another $35. for another CDRWin licence? Shouldn't my 3.8c version recognize?

Maybe I should install my old CDRWin 3.7f-e version & see if that works!

This kinda Bites!

This is common among recording software as new drives become available. Golden Hawk states they provide free updates for 18 mo. , then a $14.95 renewal fee is required for upgrades. Reasonable by all standards.

Thank's Rocketmech,

I understand & agree! Just a bite frustrating at times when you spend the time & money to build yourself a nice high end package & you can't play till you pay a little more!

Thank's much for your time & help!
