greetings folks! after my last (and first) post on this excellent site, i have another little question that might seem ridiculously easy for the majority, but we all have to start somewhere eh?
right. as we speak, i am using an old asus p3c-s. i've had it for two years and its always served my purposes. in it, i have 512meg of pc800-45 rdram that i don't want to waste. so, i bought 2x64meg to accompany it, and want to use it in a p4t. i shall have to sacrifice my lovely 10k u160 hard drives, but..(shrug) maybe i can find a pci adaptor at the right price!
my question is; asus don't seem to offer chipset drivers for this board; seller is not providing them; can i go to intel and use the 850 chipset drivers available? or would they be incompatible as the systemboard is asus?...i haven't bought the board yet...
all assistance gratefully rec'd

Yes - you can use the Intel i850 INF drivers.
Here's a sweet "little" SCSI card that works great:

It's very popular here at SysOpt. Don't forget the cable!

...many thanks to bipolarbill! my question answered in a jiffy again
as regards the plug-in adaptor; oh! that i lived in the states; an Adaptec 29160, second user on E-bay would set me back about $100 plus! i have heard my american cousins talk of this 'newegg', do they do exports?:)
thanx again

Well, if you just search your usual online stores for LISU160, I'm sure you'll find it at a reasonable price.

...as an addendum to the previous question; i have been doing a little research on another option for my upgrade; a P4t-e. this will give me much better options on cpu speed; up to 2.6/400 with the latest bios.
as i plan to do this as and when funds become available, i can't buy everything at once. so, is it possible to test the board that i have in mind (a new one on e-bay!), with a 2.4/533 that i have access to, until i can afford the new chip? the core voltages do not appear to be a problem, but are there further considerations? and, will it work??
re. the scsi card; found the LS... type; still a smidge expensive!
thanx for any guidance

You said it yourself - "up to up to 2.6/400 with the latest bios". I seriously doubt that you can test with a 533MHz CPU. Besides - the P4-T uses RDRAM only. Do you have any? You really need to do more research.
How much are you really saving (including) shipping by purchasing a used motherboard on Ebay? Personally, I only use Ebay when I can't get an item anywhere else. I don't trust Ebay or the people who use it. Many of our members have put up plainly defective products for auction because they couldn't get them to work. Scary...

thanx again Bill for the input. i have lots of rdram (1st post above) and the p4t-e is new as opposed to used..probably be too expensive, i'll have to see. the main point, however, is the 533fsb chip. so i'll have to borrow one elsewhere to test the board..assuming i buy it. there are many more rdram boards, but i don't know which ones are rated! i shall search further.
thanx again
