I am trying to access my cdrom (d http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif from dos, I can do it while windows is running via the ms-dos prompt, but if I restart in ms-dos mode it says that it can't find my cdrom. How can I fix this?

What is it you're trying to do?

You need to have the drivers load in config sys and then in autoexec.bat. Normally if windows is installed on a machine with DOS, then it will rem the line in autoexec.bat and it makes an autoexec.dos to load when shutting down into dos, so you might have to rename the Autoexec.bat to that (I think I got the name right)

If you installed Windows on a good working dos install, then you can un-rem the mscdex line in autoexec.bat and it will work in dos (of course this will force MS-DOS compatibility mode drivers on the CD-Rom when in windows).

Hope your not too confused, I'm not even thinking clearly right now... close to bed time!

I am trying to install FreeBSD and I need to be able to access my cdrom from dos, I had no problem doing this before I installed windows98(I could access D: from dos when I was using 98lite)but now I can't. BBA do I have to do all that to get it working again?

I suggest making a win98 boot disk. It has dos CD-Rom drivers. This is also handy for dos games as each disk can be configured to each game. And simple, just remove the disk and reboot.
