Can you sysopters in all your wisdom tell me if this card is worth the $? And in the review this guy is talking about unlocking the cry so he can access all of its pipelines? I was wondering you how you "unlock" a 6800? ty

I didnt think the 6800 had all 16 pipeline there to be unlocked. ie i thought it only had the 8 it needed as apposed to the X800 pro VIVO which uses 12 but has 4 inactive. so ive never heard of anybody unlocking pipelines on the 6800 normal.
personally i would go for the 6800 GT rather than the 6800. the 6800 albeit a very good card, isnt nearly as good as the X800 pro or the 6800 GT. or the repective XT and ultra.
but thats the first ive heard of somebody getting over 11000 3dmarks 03s with that card.

I'm not a gamer but my boys get by with 5200 gards - budget items to say the last but little or no problems with ALL the latest games
other guys will have opinions - seems it's a good card to start with in that price range but you don't really have to spend that much
try this link - time consuming but a good list to review?

p.s. skip the overclocking and all that stuff unless you need to and/or you know what you're doing?

there are no guarantees that the 4 extra pipelines and 1 vertex shaders are good, but you can try to unlock them with rivatuner.

Does the 6800 not only have 8 pipelines MK. or is it 12??

it has 12 versus 16 in the GT and Ultra.
The 6800LE has 8.

So why is the performacne of the X800 pro which has 12 pipelines so much better than the 6800. the X800 is closer to the 6800 Gt than the 6800 if you know what i mean.

it's not just the number of pipelines, the 6800NU also has 1 less vertex shader enabled. the 6800 also runs slower core speed and memory than a GT. The 6800 is priced at about $100 less than an X800Pro, so the obvious comparison would be the 6800GT.

so the votes are going for a 6800 GT? Can you guys post me a link of the one you had in mind?

I know you're new, but please look at the "best of" stickies.

Gainward or BFG would be my picks.

Yeah, they are pretty hard to find. You might have to settle on something else if you need the card right away.

dont need it right away, probabyl as soon as I can scrounge all the money up:-@
6800 is still considered the "high-end". Unlocking depends on luck + if you can carefully pick the exact needed card.
I thought about taking 6800 myself and almost did it but then 6800 GT went down in price and became something like 1/3 more the price of 6800. So, I went with 6800 GT and I'm not sorry.
With AXP 3200+ the card is pretty much bottlenecked by the CPU, I believe even 6800 would be, and this is another thought.
Read reviews, figure the numbers, good luck ;)
