Lets make a statement people. Encourage EVERYONE you know to download it, and make them aware of how much better it is than the current version of Internet Explorer. If you don't agree, don't flame this thread, just agree to disagree.
You can download the newest (and first release) version here:

I am not sure how long I have been using it. I have only noticed a few problems. I still recommend it 100% of the time. I installed the Open in IE plugin for sites when I have problems that I can not work around.
1) Citrix
I must install the Citrix Web Client from IE. Once Installed I can use Firefox to access my Citrix Apps. The Citrix website still tells me I have no Citrix client but it works.
2) FedEx Website
Sending packages by FedEx does not work if I use CTRL to bypass the third party pop-up blocker. I get a blank tab. I must shutoff my pop-up blocker for FireFox to operate correctly on FedEx.com
3) 81x.com
They use ASP to allow you to create and publish webpages for free. 81x.com forces you to use Internet Explorer.
4) NETg Learning Software
The NETg software I access for work and school will not function in Firefox. You must use IE.

I've been using it for a little while on my Linux box. I haven't tried it on any Windows PCs though. They're all still using the preview release. I have no intention of using IE ever again.

Might try it again. Until then I'll agree to disagree. Sleipnir (IE based) is hard to beat for a tabbed browser.

I installed it a a couple of hours ago..... Bye bye (no buy) M$ IE v.666. Kinda of like the girl (or guy, depending on your preference) you grew up with on your block. Was sort of a geek and kind of ugly, you only paid attention when you had to. Then one day... WOW! She grew up!!!!!

Trying it out right now. Using it with my proxy, it looks and feels and performs virtually identical to IE. If I don't look I'm not sure which one I'm using. So now I have 3 browsers I like.:t

And for anyone that isn't happy with speed/caching heres a speed patch. Mods can check link for safety but I have been using it for a long time.

I say it is. I was using version .8 for a while and then .93. Our main Intranet is run on Lotus Domino servers. Firefox 1 displays the pages correctly where the previous versions did not.

I think the fact that microsoft has to come out and say this says something about firefox

Firefox is gaining massive ground as becoming the browser of choice, why?
At Uni we have a series of lectures of the Internet and technology and one of the thing he drums into us is the way MS have introduced so much bumph into IE that it doesn't really adhere to the standards. However, FF/Netscape... have done as well (although they follow the standards closer).
The only thing that I prefer about FF to IE is that it doesn't have the whole ActiveX security model, but then you can't use any site that needs those ActiveX controls - I'm finding that quite numerous.
The other problem is that the number of sites that don't render correctly due to their pandering to IE - FF won't make many more leaps into the public for this reason. The other of course is how difficult is it to try and persuade people to upgrade their IE installs with the latest security updates, what is it going to be like trying to get them onto a different browser?
MS will release a new version of IE shortly I reckon, but what can they actually do? They don't have the JVM anymore so are they going to include C#? Will they include tabs natively? Will they include mouse gestures? How much will they steal from the Open Source movement which is FireFox?
Good luck to FF, but apart from us techies liking it, don't see it making much more headway into the commerical world - it doesn't do things MS way :(

It think it will. For one, it is simply better than IE, and you can always keep IE (in fact it is almost impossible to really remove it) for those sites that don't work with Firefox. I've moved a few people to Firefox, one of which is my mother, and none have looked back.
I read somewhere a little while ago that M$ now will be developing new features for IE after all (contrary to what they said before, which was that they wouldn't be developing new stuff for IE until Longhorn), and today they claim Firefox is no threat to them.
If M$ is as good at marketing as everybody says they are, why don't they guard against this kind of transparent behaviour?
BTW I moved to 1.0, only to find that most of my extensions, as well as the theme that I use, don't work with 1.0 yet. So I'm back to 1.0PR for the time being. :(

I couldn't get that speed patch to work because my Firefox install is not in the default location, but I think it must be about the same as decribed here:
http://www.pcclub.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=33&threadid=13067
I tried this, and the difference is very noticeable. And I already had HTTP pipelining enabled, as per the Firefox help pages. :t

This newer version does seem to load quicker, ive been using 0.8 for a very long time, gave up on IE almost 2 years ago.
Was a little dissappointed in the lack of extensions at first, all my favorites from 0.8 didnt work, but it seems they are porting them over pretty well. Quite a few more there last time I checked yesterday.
Server is SLOWWW though.

So far the Linux version of 1.0 is rock solid. I have no complaints about it. I still haven't upgraded the Windows machines yet.

Just installed it, it looks ok at first glance.
One thing I like was how it copied all of my IE stuff but the copied proxy settings (which where correct) it said it couldn't find, changed to direct connection, and all is well, i think its my ISP's fault because they wont give me my email unless i use Outlook. (ISP is Freeserve/wanadoo)

I wish Firefox would display my Cisco admin pages correctly.
If it wasn't for that...I'd never have any use for IE, other than windows updates.
I took the 'fox leap a while ago. Haven't looked back since.

Try this browser http://sleipnir.pos.to/cgi-bin/d/download.cgi?dl=sleipnir166z It should display your pages correctly and should have more functionality than Firefox and you can run it in gecko if you want.

Nahh...
Thanks anyways.
Don't see much point in having 3 browsers, when 2 do just fine.
I only use the IE for administering our VPN concentrator and our switches...so, no big deal.

 Firefox can have all of those functions, plus it's backed by the open source community. I'm not sure this really has anything Firefox/IE doesn't have except both of the browsers possible security holes.

I downloaded it several months ago while it was still in beta. I use it occasionally. It is a a good program but needs work still. I missed the links tool bar and IEspell. IE tabs are as good and take up less real estate. I noticed it loads text faster then IE on uncached pages, but IE is faster on regularly visited pages. Overall it's a good piece of work, but so is IE.
