This is what I did : (very wrong and also very stupid, but it happened and now I could use some help).

I wanted to clear the CMOS on my Epox KP6-BS mb.
There is a seperate (yellow) jumper on the mb for this feature.
I forgot to shut down the power of the computer and switched the jumper to pin 2-3.
Immediatly, the power (of the computer) went down.

Ever since then I'm not able to boot up in any way (even I can't boot from my A-drive with a bootdisk inserted.

The computer hangs completely at "Verifying DMI pool data...) Even Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't "work" anymore.

So, if any of you guys, could give me some info or a slution for my problem, I would be very thankfully.

Have you tried going into the BIOS and LOAD BIOS Defaults?

Reboot, but you may have to re-enter BIOS to change some final settings.

Have you also tried to clear cmos again, but this time with the power off?

If one of these dont work, your MB may actaully be damaged.

Indeed, I already tried that. Susan, when I wrote "any of you guys", I mentioned of course "anyone who reads this messageboard".

To BBA : do you mean I'm just a "good cook" ?

But thanks anyway, guy and girl!

"any of you guys"......don't worry about it. I'm used to it. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

So, you tried both suggestions?

A friend of mine had a similar problem and it turned out that the CPU had burned itself out. The CPU was a Cyrex 166 oc'ed to 200 and it would only boot the computer at a setting of 90.
Try underclocking your CPU and see if theres a change on when it locks up. If it boots at a lower speed then you killed your CPU.

WOW! Almost did that myself once. The board may be dead, perhapse you can get a refund saying, "It just stoped turning working."

You might want to try this;

1. Get an old (working) isa VGA card and install it in place of whatever video card you have.

2. Place a bootable floppy in drive and power on.

If your accidentaly erased the CMOS then you should be able to boot with the floppy.

But if the basic boot instructions where erased then you fried the BIOS chip and need a replacement.

Also try a different CPU like mentioned on a previous post.

good luck

The problem is still "alive".

But nevertheless, thanks for your replies !

If I ever find the problem, I'll keep you informed.
