The best way is to boot with a system disk that has CDROM support so that you can install Windows. The boot disk that came with your Windows98 should have CDROM support.
Or you need to install the system files from a startup disk onto your hard disk to make it bootable, then you install the CDROM drivers onto the hard disk - boot the hard disk and at the prompt go to your 'E' drive (or whatever your CDROM drive is) to run setup for Windows install.
I'm sure that some nice person can let you know where to obtain a boot disk with CDROM support -if you do not already have one.

Run fdisk to make sure your partition is set active.

OOPS, sorry, I thought you meant the C: drive was the invalid disk!!

Check in Fdisk to make sure the drive is being seen and then try sys c: from your boot disk and see if that helps.

when you formatted did you just type format c: ? if you did then you didnt format with system files. when you format a drive so you can reinstall an o/s then you format c:/s . that way you can boot from yer c drive.

"The CD-ROM God is a boot disk that has 50+ CD-ROM drivers. It has basic ATAPI drivers, and model specific drivers. As long as you can guess what type of CD-ROM you have, CD-ROM God will work. This disk can really save you in a jam. If you have ever formatted a drive, then realized you just lost the CD drivers, this disk is for you..."
