Hi Folks,
This is a bit of a weird one. I have 2 PC's connected by an ad-hoc (point to point) wireless connection. All was working until recently when the ICS (internet connection sharing) part just stopped working. I can see the other computer, share files with no problem. I have a cable modem and have set the properties to share (tick box). I had not made any changes before it stopped working. I tested it after going to XP sp2 and it was okay. I have tried uninstalling both wireless cards and resetting up the network but, it is the same. I have disabled the firewall on the 2nd system so its not that (both ICF and zonealarm).
Any ideas ?

May be this can Help: Making the Wireless Home Network Connection in Windows XP Without a Router. (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_02april08.mspx)
However an Inexpensive Wireless Cable/DSL Router will solve the problem in a much better way.

Please Do Not relate the following as personal issue, but rather a philosophical notion.
Lately I see a lot of these statements: “it was working”
The be honest I do not understand them,
The human body is working and then gets at time sick.
Cars go well but then with aging starting to have mechanical problem.
As so On and So On.
The computer OS, software applications, combining with the Internet is a dynamic “Thing” it keep changing and adjusting all the time.
I am pretty sure that if you would reformat you Hard drive and start from scratch it the OS and all your applications it will probably work OK, and then after a while would be “trashed” again.
Switching some of the sensitive tasks to Hardware (like Wireless Router) help to minimize the incidents of trashing.
See it like human controlling the diet in order to avoid Heart Attack.

I totally agree with your synopsis on "it was working" and the ever changing bit as well. However in this case it had a recent build with no apps or mail running. it was a second PC for the kids and was just used to surf and that was all.
I work for a major manufacturer of unix systems so my PC stuff is a little rusty but, in this case "it was working" was a valid statement.
thanks for the input though :)
I completely rebuilt the system and reinstalled the network, this was intermittant until I installed the netbui protocol when it became solid as a rock. This I do not understand as tcp/ip should work fine ...
At this point I still had no ICS, the problem it seems lay between keyboard and chair, my wife had updated zonealarm (free version), which on the latest update will not support ICS unless the ip address of the second pc is maually added to trusted zone and the firewall main setting is on medium. Also the gateway ip needs to be in the trusted zone on the ICS client with the firewall setting on high for the best incoming protection.
She did not think it important enough to tell me until about 3 days in to the investigation.
We are still married but, I have removed of all her fingers and changed the password on the PC :) :)
thanks for your help
