I'm Playing Doom 3 on my computers without a problem:

Mobo: Abit NF7-S
Mem: 1GB PQI PC3200
GPU: eVGA GeForce FX 5700 128MB
Pro: AMD Athlon XP 2500+

My friend is trying to get the game to play on his system. When the game starts to load, you can hear the sound in the backround of the game starting, but the screen is white. I'm thinking his system can't run the game? What do u think?

Dell 8300

Mem: 256MB
GPU: Geforce MX420
Pro: P4 2.0ghz

He really shouldn't bother trying to run that game on a system like that. The video card is exceptionally weak, much worse than even a MX440. THen there is the amount of RAM he has which is just adequate enough to run XP and a couple small apps.

definatly they video card. that will be the problem.

yeah, it's a P4 2.0

I was thinking it was his system too when I seen the specs. B/C my computer had noticable trouble running the game. Works perfect since I went from 512mb to 1gig. As specs are above

Resolution is at 1024x768. Other than that, I haven't changed anything. Just installed and played

The game specs state that you need at least 512-1 GB of memory to play it...

Its the memory....

In addition..a friend of mine has my old MX 420 card and he plays it OK.....but of course not in all its glory like I can....and...e has 612 of RDram memeory and only a 1.3 P4 CPU.

Well I have a P4 2.8C with a GF4 Ti4200 and 512MB RAM, but I can only play it on 640x480 resolution.

I have the exact same CPU as you and 1GB of memory and a FX5900 card and I can play it at high frap rates on 1024 X 768.

Make sure you all to upgrade your DX file to 9.0C

On the main detaail setting it plays beautiful at medium setting which is the one for the last generation cards.

Ther isn't even many fairly new or simpler games out that 256MB of memory will play..yet alone this one..

Like I said in an earlier post...a friend of mine has my old VC which is only a 64MB GF 4 MX420 and a 1.3 GHZ processor ...but the reason he can play it OK is the 630MB of RDram. Even at that his does not lok nearly as good as mine and the lighting effects are almost nill..and the speed is quite a bit slower.

Its mostly the memory like I said....mainly because a game such as this with all the high end graphics..plus sound plus whatever else just puts a heavy burden on your system overall and it needs as much memory as it can so the rendering process does not bog down...

If you stuck just another 256 of memory in there and got even a FX5700 Ulttra card or above or even a ATI 9800 pro....the game would play and look spectacular...darkness and all...

i can play doom 3 with 256 DDRAM. Only reason i have that cause i broke a stick installing my 3.0 Prescot. I have a 9800XT 256. im playing it fine on Ultra 2xAA 8xAF with a 1-2 second lock up with action gets heated up. It will play at about 40-70FPS
I am currently getting 1 gig 2x512 OCZ pc-3200 only memory compatible with Prescott.

you will play it ok, but to be honest theres no way your getting even close to 70FPS you wount even get 58. im running a 6800GT and get 69FPS so your 70 is not true, your 40 is.
