I've got an Acer Aspire (K6-233) with a myriad of problems ranging from system freezes (9 of 10 times) to sw/hw incompatiblities (e. g., won't run any MS Office '97 apps). Acer tech support is useless and I am at wits end. The question is: Do I continue to try and fix the problems or scrap the MB and build a new system around the case, memory & peripherals?
If the answer is build new, does anyone have experience with using the Acer case (it appears to have a unique config with an attached daughter board containing the open slots)?

If you do decide to scrap it, Dont let a case limit you to different setups. Cases are fairly cheap. You can get a cheap deep, wide case for around $40. I'm talk ATX.
If money is tight. Look at a getting an Abit BH6 mobo and a celeron 400a with some pc100RAM. This combo is fairly cheap and for the $$$$ runs pretty fast.
But definitly try the Reformat idea first.

yeah, try reinstall windows first (ms tech supports most common answer).

That "daughter board" is a riser card. The riser card equates to a huge choke point. If you'll notice, the true mainboard only has one slot. EXTREMELY cheap product. Bet you didn't think it was cheap when you bought it. Any one here will tell you MY opinion of Big manu pre-builds.....
I recommend you wipe your disk and reload your OS. If you're still not satisfied, keep the cpu, drives and periph cards. Burn the rest. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif Just kidding.....NOT!

Try reformating the hard drive, sounds like problems with Windows, if that does not help, get a replacement part.
