I have had enough of Zonealarm causing me trouble. I know this has been done many times before. I want a new firewall because I want something better for networking and something with more options and settings so I cusomise my programs access rights more.

Cheers

I used Outpost for a while, but found it slightly harder to configure for my needs than Sygate. Try them both and see :t

I agree with ck, they're both good firewalls but Sygate is much easier to set up than Outpost.

If you want more control over access rights, http://www.kerio.com/dwn/kpf2-en-win.exe is the way to go. Very configurable but you need some knowledge.

I like Sygate. I especially like the fact it alerts you before allowing apps to "phone home".

I haven't tried Outpost, however,

I am running outpost on a family computer, the free version seems to be very customizable, just a tad bit of computer knowledge is necessary, but nothing that isn't very hard to learn.

I am trying Sygate at the moment.

I quite like the interface. Nice to have choices about which ports programs are allowed to use. And it is nice to now know when my ports are being scanned and which ports.

The logs are quite nicely organised. And I like the running aplications section. The Graphs with the amount of Outgoing and Incoming traffic including blocked traffic is quite interesting aswell.

I perfer it over Zonealarm.

Although I havnt found a way to set Sygate to let a computer game through without loading the game and when it tries to get to the internet Alt+Tab to try to get to Sygate to say yes. Please tell me if there is a way to do this.
