Does anyone know how to go about this? TIA, Brian BC 07-07-1999, 02:43 PM yes but then it says is that the version you are trying to install isn't the upgrade or something like that. I thought that all you had to do is like get rid of the win.ini and some other things but I'm not sure what all you have to do. PDA 07-07-1999, 04:59 PM what I do when upgrading from win95 to win98 or win98 to win98se, with a full version rather than the upgrade version, I copy all the files from the win98 folder on the CD to an options folder on the hard drive, rename win.com win.old and run setup. when it asks which folder to install to make sure it is the one where windows currently resides. All data and programs are safe. Needless to say always backup before making any changes. BC 07-07-1999, 05:41 PM thats what I wanted to know thanks! BC BBA 07-07-1999, 08:59 PM PDA, Ahhh! I see... I remember that happening once now that you mention it, and running setup from the actual Win98 folder instead of the root of the CD-ROM does work... Sorry about the confusion! BBA Gpot 07-07-1999, 11:53 PM BBA, then what do you do with the new folder called options ? or maybe I don't understand. Do you run setup from that folder ? GPo [This message has been edited by Gpot (edited 07-07-99).] BBA 07-08-1999, 12:21 AM When I had Win98 on my PC and I placed the WIN98SE cd in the drive, I was prompted that this cd contains a newer version of windows, and asked if I wanted to replace the current version. I believe this will just do a upgrade install this way, although I opted to do a fresh install of SE. BBA BC 07-08-1999, 09:31 AM yes you run setup from there. But I name it c:windows\options\cabs Most new pc's like dell or compact... Already have that on there so when you install new hardware or something you just point it there instead of getting the cd out. Makes it real handy BBA 07-08-1999, 10:42 PM Gpot, well, ... no, I don't run setup from any 'options' folder, in fact, I don't remember seeing an options folder and none of my Win98 cd's have one nor do my hard drives. I run setup solely from the WIN98 folder or WIN98SE folder, not the root folder of the cd. One pointer though... I do usually copy the actual win98 folder to the hard drive and install it from there ( only about 175M ). The reason I do this is that if I make a system change, such as to network settings, I don't get prompted to put in the cd-rom. Just makes life a little more enjoyable! BBA SysOpt.com
