I am checking out a PB 486/66 w/8Mb for a friend and was wondering if it is common for PB computers to show an error at bootup-3f8h com port error(I think 3f8h is correct)? This is the second PB I've seen with this problem-I was thinking it was the sound/modem card. Is that correct?

Also-it has this dialer program (Netscape 3) that starts at Win 95 bootup that i can not seem to find to get rid of-looked in autoexec.bat,win.ini etc.-Where can else would a dialer prog. be located? This seems to be win 3.1 program or something that is being used instead of the dial-up networking in Win 95.

Thanks

yes that is a modem prob... what is going on is that the bios has taken the area 3f8h for its own,but the modem allready had control of it to begin with...disable the comm port 3f8h in the bios and it should work fine... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Relating too your Netscape problem I think I have the answer.
Goto "Start", "Run", type in regedit.exe
When you see the program open, you will have a number of tabs.
You will need to follow the path given.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
When you have reached the path, you should be able to see anything relating too Netscape, if you do then delete it.
Also, in "Start", "Programs", "Startup" try seeing if you can find anything relating to netscape there as well.
Goodluck.

Maybe a simple uninstall will work too?
