Yes i want to know why my hd read 5,153,423,362 capacity 4.79 when i look in disk properties?
Where is all this space going. It belive it is a 5 gig by why 4.79? Does this for my other hardrive
1,701,289,984 1.58 when i look in disk properties. Is this normal? I configured everything right in bios updated bios. Is that slack space?
It's slack arithmitic! You see, in binary (number base 2) terms, one 'K' is 2 raised to the tenth power, or 1024. One Meg is a 2 to the twentieth, or 1,048,576.
To a hard drive manufacturer, thats cheating them out of bragging rights, so they market 1,000,000 bits as one meg. So one meg equals 1000000bits in "advertisement units" but is really 1,048,576 bits.
Heres where it gets tricky. If your drive has 5,153,423,362 bits, then it has an advertised 5.1Gig, but will really have 4.79M or as much advertised space as a marketing genius can fool you into believing!

Same deal in monitors. "17 in" is really 15.3 viewable and so forth....
56k modems (not an achievable speed for 99.99% of the population)
Plug and Play~Hahahhahhaahahhaaaa
"Utility" software that actually degrades system performance or crashes.
"Unlimited" internet access. Try to keep a 24/7 connection?
Page per minute printer output.
Free Tech support. Again, haahahhhaaahhaaa.
Sofware upgrades that make (insert system here) "faster".
You've gotta love rampant false adverising. That is one thing about the computer industry that really pisses me off. Even though many companies manu quality products, they STILL lie through their teeth to market them.
