HELP!! Ever since I put new ASPI drivers in my PC for my new HP 8100i, my PC won't boot up into Windows. I'm writing this message from my cousin's PC. What should I do? I REALLY don't want to uninstall Windows 'cause I have TONS of files that I need on my PC right now (downloads, etc.). I would delete these drivers since they are probably causing some kind of conflict, but I CANT!!! I can't even get into DOS!!! Does anyone have a solution for me? If I could just delete those **** ****ED UP DRIVERS!!!!!! If I ever get my PC running again, I'm planning on sending a nice little e-mail to Adaptec...hehe Any help would be GREATLY appreciated...
Thanks,
Apollon

Try to boot up in "safe mode"...
To do this you will need to hit and hold the F8 key right after you get the bios screen...if it starts to beep then let off the F8 key...it should bring a a Menu where you can choose which startup option you want...choose Safe mode (this only loads the minimum amount of drivers possiable for windows to work...when you get into windows you can then delete the offending files http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Quite frequently when I install a SCSI card into a system that has been in operation for a while good ole Windows Plug and Pray assigns the new SCSI card the same IRQ as some other device, now some times you can share IRQ but not very often with a SCSI card, you can swap the PCI cards around or change the IRQ of the device that is conflicting with the SCSI card, some times it will show on boot up, if you can't find what two are conflicting and your BIOS allows you to select IRQ's for a particular slot, try doing that. I don't think it is a driver, most SCSI drivers are all the same from one brand to another they just have to conform to the ASPI standard.

remember that when you hit the F8 key as the above post mentioned, it allows you even to boot up in safe mode command prompt, this would allow no drivers of any kind to load, so that nothing would conflict, and at least you could use another hard drive to copy your stuff to maybe using ghost, and then have it to put back once you reformatted...
I had the same problem with a HP-8100 and my BH6, although it worked fine on my friends BH6. He had a different bios version but the same Win98.When I reinstalled my old drives ( 2 CD's ) all worked fine again. I never had this problem with my Mitsumi drive, and I've had countless prob's with HP cd-r/rw's on all different types of PC's.
I don't generally recommend a HP cd-r to anyone just to avoid the hassle they present.

If you can't get into Safe Mode through the post or making the # selection, try using a boot disk and/or when you get to the C:> type in win /d:m
