Ok, we have anew client who wants to put in a 2003 server as a Backup Domain Controller to their NT4 domain controller.

Can this be done? I am not sure it 2003 can be a BDC. Their concern was that if it isn't, since it will hosting RRAS for dial-in connections, how will it authenticate users.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Ok, I have confirmed my thoughts, and you can not make 2003 a BDC< because it needs either 2000 or 2003 to do this.

HOwever, that still leaves me with the question of how will I get RRAS to authenticate users based on the users account in the domain controller.

Ok, our boys at MS just told me as long as I make the server a member server, than I should have problems with the RRAS authentication.

If anyone has anything else to add, I am all ears.

Thanks,

Yea, upgrade the NT server to 2003 so you can upgrade the network.

Can't upgrade the NT server to 2003. I have to leave the PDC as it is for now, and just replace the Exchange server. Too many branch offices to start upgrading and migrating the PDC.

Also, their current PDC is 5 years old, I doubt it will even run 2003 correctly.
