The reason I ask is that I have this Athy3000+ barton 333fsb for which I'm looking for a new mobo (unless freakin soyo can actually fix their agp+ radeon9800pro issue).

I know the 3200+ was the last AthyXP, and Sempron is see will still be made for Socket A for awhile.

Thing is, if the performance of a 3000+ in a decent nforce 2 board will be useless in 12 months why bother? In that case I'd best be served to pawn it off on an unsuspecting in-law and save up for a A64 system. :| Now, I'd like a A64 based system, but I don't really feel like shelling out the bucks ($130 for the K8N Neo2, $295 for a socket 939 3500+), especially since I feel the 3000+ can still put out.

Mobo input welcome. Price should be between $60 and $85. Above that will require a compelling reason, but I'll hear you. muchos thanksos.

I believe that Socket A will be usable for at least a few years. My reasoning is this: My Athlon XP system can run Doom 3 (and will be able to run HL2) at decent resolutions and high quality settings. Any games based on the doom 3 and source engines, therefore (such as quake 4 and vampires: bloodlines) will therefore be able to run on Socket A systems at decent settings. New games come out every few months, but new game engines come out far less frequently, just look at how long the Quake III engine has been utilized! I'm personally saving up for the dual core revolution, but that's just me.

I would go with a cheap but good performer, and wait some time for price drops on the 64's.
