I have my broadband internet connection shared wirelessly over 802.11b but for reasons i can't work out, it is slow as crud at loading pages.

-using wired internet ethernet on the router works normally
-the card claims to be running at full speed and with a good connection
-putting on a big download will easily get up to the full 50k speed
-pinging the router shows up no dropped packets and fairly good ping rates
-there is no firewall on
-from what i can tell there are no virii or trojans sending out garbage over the connection and wasting bandwidth
-happens to windows xp and me on 2 different laptops. I haven't had a chance to test it with linux/mac/desktop etc, so i can't tell if its just windows being odd.
-happens on 2 different branded wireless cards.

pages will load eventually, but it will take a long time, slower than dialup.

anyone have any clues on what to check next?

also, its a computer that is only used by my family, not me, who have an allergic reaction to reading error messages and just yell 'the internets broken!!!' down the stairs and refuse to give any more detail on what caused stuff to crash that "dunno" and "it just stopped working" :(
